Description
The Liverpool Lifeboat Disaster occurred on July 20, 1892, when the Liverpool lifeboat launched in a violent gale to rescue the grounded British barque Maxwell at the Mersey Bar. During the attempted rescue, a massive wave struck and capsized the lifeboat, throwing the crew into the sea.
Three lifeboat crew members tragically lost their lives as a result of the incident.
